Keeneland Race Course Lexington KentuckyAccording to the Louisville Kentucky newspaper, The Courier-Journal, the opening day for the Keeneland Race Course in Lexington Kentucky was a big success overflowing with people in attendance for the day’s events.

Keeneland Race Course was built in 1936 and has permanent seating for 8,535 people not including the benches that are located along the apron. Saturday crowds however have been in the 20,000 range.

To try and alleviate some of the pressure, Keeneland has added facilities to accommodate more persons with their newest place for bettors being about equidistant from the Blue Grass Airport and the racing track. This gives tailgaters an ability to bet on the various races and are one concession to help with the crowds.

They are considering adding additional seating closer to the track either as a temporary measure, or even possibly a permanent one. Any additional seating could require shifting some parking.

They are the first to say that its a good problem to have with a lot of horse race tracks struggling to keep their attendance figures up where they need to be.

They are also considering opening up additional access to the various paddocks for persons to be able to picnic within. But that opens up concerns for the horses and any items that may accidentally be left behind that may cause injury to the horses that are there the rest of the time grazing when the crowds aren’t.

If you’ve never been to the Keeneland Race Course in Lexington Kentucky, its a great time to be had by all and is worth doing at least once.
