First day of Fall this weekend

Posted on September 19, 2007

Horse FarmsWell, the first day of fall is this coming weekend. Expecting cooler temperatures, rain, and some pumpkin pie? Well, you might be able to dig up some pie from someone if you are kind enough - but as far as the other two are concerned, theres nothing on the weather forecast for it.

The scorching heat is already causing people to dip into the hay stocks. And if you recall, hay production has been quite bad this year for most of the area here in Kentucky. You can expect hay prices to go from where they are currently at expensive, and go to crazy-insaneo expensive.

Many persons have said they’ve never seen anything like this in the past 20 or 30 years. For our own horse farm in Shelbyville KY, we’ve only had 1 cutting of hay this year. Its doubtful if we are going to even get a 2nd cutting. And there is no chance at all for a 3rd cutting like we got last year.

Going to be quite tough (and expensive) I think this coming winter for all of the Kentucky horse arms in the Louisville and Shelbyville areas.

Hopefully, we can keep our fingers crossed, and we can get some relief from the dry & hot conditions - and get a little cooler temperatures and some rain.
