Horse Saddling Clinic in West Virginia

Posted on September 26, 2007

Kentucky Horse Saddling ClinicBALANCE International held a horse saddling consultation clinic in Clarksburg West Virginia on Saturday September 22, 2007. Carol Brett, president of BALANCE International was the representative for the clinic. (If you will recall, Carol was the person that held the clinic in Simpsonville Kentucky in April 2007 at Big Springs Farm, which was hosted by us.)

The event in West Virginia was a tremendous success. There were approximately a dozen attendees from several states including Kentucky. They spent some of their time initially on the ground with their horse moving on its own accord, because after all, if a horse is unable to move in balance on its own accord, its unreasonable to expect it to move in balance with a rider upon its back.

Trying different saddle combinations would yield significant variations in how the horse would move and essentially, the horse would ultimately “pick” which saddle it preferred by being able to move most easily while wearing it and remaining in balance. Once a horse has achieved balance on its own accord, then you can move up from there and concentrate on improving balance and movement with a rider on the horses back and working all the way up from standing, to walking, and so on. This allows the horse to find his balance in each movement of riding, before moving up to the next more difficult and faster riding with canters, etc.

Everyone seemed to enjoy the event, and a lot was learned as usual from Carol Brett providing her insight from her years of experience that she has accumulated.

Carol Brett is now currently in Billings Montana doing a 4 day horse clinic that I look forward to hearing how it went as well.
