Louisville Kentucky Farmers MarketAn article in the Sunday November 25 2007 issue of the Louisville Kentucky newspaper, The Courier-Journal, noted some interesting information about Louisville Kentucky Farmers Markets.

There are approximately 15 farmers markets in Louisville Kentucky.  There are however, very few in the central and downtown region of Louisville.

The ones downtown are as follows:

California Farmers Market located at 23rd & Kentucky Street

Smoketown Shelby Park Farmers Market located at 828 Jackson Street (at the Meyzeek Middle School)

The advocates for patronizing these markets maintain that its important for all members of the Louisville Kentucky community to have access to fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as the other wares that are offered for sale at these farmers markets.   They improve health, and beyond that, help promote a community spirit and pride in their neighborhood and that you shouldn’t be separated by real estate boundaries in Louisville when trying to market your products.

Members of the Community Farm Alliance are promoting the benefits for farmers to take their wares to these other markets.  Additional incentives to attract customers to these markets include the potential of accepting food stamps, and WIC vouchers for payment which should broaden the appeal to some persons in these areas and create a stronger customer base for the farmers to want to come to these farmers markets to sell their products.
