Posted on September 28, 2007
A recent study headed by Raymond Wells was conducted in conjunction with local/state health officials and other government agencies. They examined various qualities of life such as overall health, causes of death, standards of living, & prevalence of chronic diseases.
The results of the study: Shelby County ranked 19th in the state. [Oldham County was ranked #1, and Spencer County was ranked #7.]
According to the results: only 20% of adults and 18% of youths smoke in Shelby County. That is significantly less than many other parts of the state – particularly Eastern Kentucky.
Other contributing results to bolster the rank of Shelby County Kentucky as one of the Best Places To Live are:
Low percentage of diabetes
Low rate of premature deaths
Low rate of colorectal cancer
Low percentage of uninsured residents
And a fairly active population that gets exercise regularly.
A big kudos to everyone in Shelby County (and Oldham & Spencer County too). Keep up the good living!
