Man accused of horse abuse - enters plea deal
Posted on September 24, 2007
Early this year, a man was indicted on seven counts of abusing horses, and he has now entered into a plea agreement where he will be charged with two misdemeanors and be placed on probation for 2 years. Additionally, he will pay $3,500 in costs for care of his horses when they taken from him.
Unfortunately, it appears under this deal, he will be getting his horses back. Shelby County Animal Control will be visiting this person’s horse farm monthly to ensure that the horses are being properly cared for. But this wasn’t sufficient to prevent an outcry on the Sentinel News local newspaper website in Shelbyville Kentucky. Many persons wrote their extreme displeasure with the result and wanted a much harsher penalty to be imposed.
But the prosecutor explained that there was little that he could do. The prosecutor recommended persons upset at this situation to channel their efforts into getting the General Assembly to bump it from a Class A misdemeanor to a Felony to put some bite into it - so there would be harsher penalties for treating horses in this manner.
